Pneumatic Refrigeration Tools

Custom Pneumatic Refrigeration Tools

The pneumatic tools shown in this section have been developed for use in the refrigeration manufacturing industry.  Due to a wide variety of application requirements within the industry, these tools are classified as "custom" or "build-to-order".  We do try to maintain inventory of a few of these tools, while others must be built as needed.

Details for each of these tools are listed below.  Should you have a requirement for a custom tool for a refrigeration related application, just give us a call.

Pneumatic Crimping Tools to temporarily seal annealed copper tubing prior to a final solder or braze sealing operation.

JANUARY 2025:  THESE TOOL ARE UNAVAILABLE  AT THIS TIME.   EMAIL QUESTIONS: Sales@custom-products.com

The BC-004, BC-006 and PTX-809 are all designed to crimp and seal annealed refrigeration copper when used in OEM refrigeration manufacturing processes.

Each tool is equipped with a reverse action valve which allows the crimp jaws to remain in the closed (clamped) position when the lever handle is in the open or released position.  This allows the technician to have both hands free while performing the final braze or solder sealing operation.  Once the final sealing operation is completed, the lever valve is depressed and the jaws open to remove the tool from the tubing.

Each tool is designed to crimp a specific range of tube diameters.  The crimp style of the BC series is different than the crimp style of the PTX-809.  The Ball Crimp tools will deform the tubing during the crimp operation but will not compromise the strength of the tube at the crimp point.  The PTX-809 produces a flat crimp profile on both sides of the tube, but will not deform or weaken to tube at the crimp point.  The PTX-809 is also equipped with a tube guide to assist the technician with aligning the tubing perpendicular to the crimp jaws.

(TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED)The BC-004 Pneumatic Ball Crimp Tool is designed to crimp and seal annealed refrigeration copper, 3/16" - 1/4" diameter.  After charging your system, this tool will seal the tubing to hold pressure while the solder / braze process is completed.  NOTE: This tool MUST remain clamped onto the tubing and not released until the solder or braze process is completed.  Once the solder / braze has cooled, the tool can be removed.  The Ball Crimp tool WILL deform the tubing slightly due to the ball design.  This tool is usually in stock, but lead time can vary from stock - 6 weeks depending upon quantity needed.

(Suggested replacement for BC-004 and BC-006) The PTX-809 Pneumatic Crimp Tool is designed to crimp and seal annealed refrigeration copper, 1/4" - 3/8" diameter.  This tool utilizes straight jaws with a wide radius to create a clean crimped area on both sides of the tubing with no deformation.  After charging your system, this tool will seal the tubing to hold pressure while the solder / braze process is completed.  NOTE: This tool MUST remain clamped onto the tubing and not released until the solder or braze process is completed.  Once the solder / braze has cooled, the tool can be removed.  This tool is usually in stock, but lead time can vary from stock - 6 weeks depending upon quantity needed.

Pneumatic tools for tube reduction and tube flattening

The tools shown in this section represent examples of tools built for specific customer applications and considered build-to-order only.  These are NOT stock tools.  Each tool built will be assigned a part number that is unique to that application and customer.  If you have a requirement for a tool similar to the examples shown, please contact us with your application details.

Tube reduction tools are always build-to-order custom tools.  Lead time is typically 7-8 weeks. Annealed copper, aluminum and other soft non-ferrous tubes are required for use with these tools.  Specify O.D. and wall thickness for the large tube being reduced, and the OD of the capillary tube that will be inserted into the reduced tube.  Advise if a minimum or maximum tube clearance is required to avoid interference issues.  NOTE: If your tubing has been "flared" prior to the tube reduction process, please advise.  Samples of your tubing (flared or not flared) MUST be provided to us prior to receiving a formal quote.

Each of the tools listed in this Refrigeration Tool Section are classified as custom, build-to-order.  As such, tool schematics and parts lists will be included when the tool is shipped to the customer.

As a general rule, the BC-004 and BC-004 are usually available with a 2-4 week lead time. We also attempt to maintain a stock on the PTX-809, but lead time can vary from stock-8 weeks.  All the other tools listed are built-to-order and usually carry an 8-9 week lead time.

If you are looking for a CUSTOM tool for a specific application we recommend the following procedure:

1.  The fastest method is to give us a call so we can discuss your application in detail. Toll Free U.S. / Canada: 888-444-1202 or 612-859-1110.

2.  If emailing your request, please be sure to provide as much information as possible regarding the application, including material specifications, cycles performed per day, photos or video of the process and tool that you currently use, solid model drawings (.stp format) if available, etc.  Send email requests to: info@custom-products.com

3.  In most cases, we will request that you send us samples of the material or parts you will be processing with the tool so we can have parts available for both tool design as well as testing when the tool is completed.  The testing process is available to all customers at no cost.  This assures all parties that the correct tool is specified for the application and that it performs as expected.

4.  Upon receipt of your PO, we will provide the customer with a drawing model for final approval prior to starting the manufacturing process.  You will be asked to sign off on the drawing and authorize the project to move forward.

5.  As a general rule, lead time for custom tools will average 8-10 weeks after receipt of order. This can vary depending upon the complexity of the tool design as well as internal production schedules.

6.  There is NO Risk for our customers.  Should we accept your project for a custom tool, it must perform as expected.  If it does not, we reserve the right to rework the tool, replace the tool or refund the customer in full.  In most cases, we do not require a deposit or advance payment on custom tools.

7.  Complete customer satisfaction is our responsibility and we take this very seriously.

The Warranty document below applies to all standard, off-the-shelf components used as part of your custom tool.

PNEUMATIC TOOL WARRANTY DOCUMENT

In most cases, the power pack and jaw housings used on custom tools will be 1 of our standard units.  The bulk of the custom tools designed will utilize a custom set of jaws to perform the function required.  Regardless of the jaw design, we do not warrant the jaws for breakage or wear unless we determine a manufacturing or material defect is present.  CPS has no control over how the tools are being used, however we will inspect any broken or worn parts to determine if a warranty replacement applies.
